Shoe designer Donald Pliner buys Bel-Air home for $4.26 million
Shoe designer Donald Pliner and his wife, Lisa, have bought a Bel-Air home from the estate of Jean Webb Vaughan Smith, a confidant of former First Lady Nancy Reagan, for $4.26 million.
The French-influenced house is entered through a two-story foyer and central hall. A step-down living room, a library, a family room with a bar, a formal dining room, a den, a projection room, an island kitchen, four fireplaces, five bedrooms and 61/2 bedrooms are contained within the home’s 7,600 square feet of living space.
Donald Pliner, who launched his first line in 1989, has footwear and accessory stores around the country. Lisa Pliner launched her signature collection two years ago.
Smith’s husband was William French Smith, who served as attorney general under President Ronald Reagan from 1981-1985. He died in 1990 at 73.
Jean Webb Vaughan Smith, a member of the Reagans’ inner circle who served as national president of the Assn. of Junior Leagues, died early this year at 93.
Public records show the property last changed hands in 1994 for $1.8 million.
Linda May of Coldwell Banker’s Beverly Hills North office was the listing agent. Loren Judd of the same office represented the buyers.
