Justin Berfield’s Calabasas home for sale for $3,995,000

Some child actors just never grow up in the public’s mind. Well, people, it’s time to give Justin Berfield his due. Given all the bucks the 23-year-old throws around buying and selling houses, certainly he deserves the status of full-on grown-up -- even after playing the bad boy brother in “Malcolm in the Middle” for six years.

Berfield just listed his Calabasas home at $3,995,000. He bought it in 2006 for about $3.75 million from former MTV “Newlyweds” couple Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey. He is planning to move to Malibu to be closer to the Venice-based film and TV companies that he formed in 2004, J2 Pictures and J2TV.

The Mediterranean he hopes to sell is in a private guard-gated community and on top of that, has its own gated driveway. The 6,483-square-foot house has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms and plenty of grown-up toys: There is a home theater, an infinity pool and spa, a wine cellar and a full-sized bar with indoor-outdoor access. The home has a custom soundproof room that was formerly used as a recording studio. There are travertine floors, high ceilings, four sun decks and views from the master bedroom suite.

Berfield starred as Reese, the bully brother on Fox’s “Malcolm in the Middle” in 151 episodes from 2000 to ’06. He was a child actor, appearing in national commercials; he made his TV series debut when he co-starred in “The Good Life” with Drew Carey. Berfield is known for his support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Patte Gilbert at Ewing & Associates, Sotheby’s International Realty, is the listing agent.
