Apple unveils new Retina MacBook Pro laptops and price for Mac Pro

At an event in San Francisco on Tuesday, Apple announced new versions of its Retina MacBook Pro laptops and said its redesigned Mac Pro computer will go on sale “before the end of the year.”

The Cupertino, Calif., tech giant said the black, cylinder-shape Mac Pro, which was announced last summer, will start at $2,999 for a 256 GB model with 12 GB of RAM. The Mac Pro, which uses an Intel Xeon E5 processor, will be assembled in the U.S.

Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller also unveiled the company’s second-generation 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro, which goes on sale Tuesday. The new laptop has had its price reduced to $1,999, down from $2,199 when it was introduced last year. The new model has eight hours of battery life and runs on an Intel Crystalwell chip.

Additionally, Apple also updated its 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro model. The new device has a longer-lasting battery, uses an Intel Haswell chip, and is thinner and lighter than before at 0.71-inches thick and 3.46 pounds. The company said it starts shipping today and is available for $1,299 -- $200 less than last year’s model.
