Apple may release a new version of its Apple TV digital receiver box in October, according to a tweet by venture capitalist and Apple blogger MG Siegler.

“I guess those excited about a software refresh in a week are gonna be *really* excited when new Apple TV hardware is unveiled next month, “ Siegler tweeted.

Although Siegler’s tweet provided very little information, a report Wednesday by 9to5Mac provided more information.

The trusty Apple news website said the tech company is working on a new version of the Apple TV, and it could unveil the device alongside its announcement of new iPad tablets, which it expects will happen in October. That’s the same month Apple unveiled new iPads in 2012.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple has previously unveiled new iPads and a new Apple TV together, so this would simply be history repeating itself.

But before a new Apple TV comes out, a software upgrade for existing models is expected to happen next week, according to 9to5Mac as well as AllThingsD.

The upgrade is expected to come alongside the release of Apple’s iOS 7 mobile software. The Apple TV software upgrade is expected to add some new features, like iTunes Radio, and make it compatible with Apple’s other new types of software, like the upcoming Mavericks OS X desktop platform.
