More than ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ in Facebook Timeline

Share

Have you noticed anything different about updates on your Facebook Timeline? The social network has added the ability to do more than “like” and “share” stuff.

On Wednesday, the Facebook developers blog announced that websites can, with a little bit of coding, add more interactive features to their Timeline apps.

“Developers can designate an action link for any action they define, which will then appear throughout Facebook,” wrote Facebook software engineer Alex Wyler.

That means you will start to see news feed and Timeline postings with “cooked a recipe” show up in your feed or have the option to “save this place” on friends’ Fourquare check-ins as developers add this functionality to their apps on Facebook.

Fab.com, for example, has added “fave that product,” allowing users to add a product to their favorites on the site.

Already, these action links have begun appearing on the desktop version of Facebook. However, if your updating is done in the mobile apps, you won’t see this yet. But it’s in the works, according to the post.
