Facebook sends out invitation to a June 20 event -- by snail mail

Share

Facebook has begun sending out invitations for its next media event, but not in a way one would expect from a top tech company. Facebook is using the U.S. Postal Service.

Numerous news publications discovered envelope-clad invitations for a June 20 Facebook event in their mailboxes Friday.

Facebook is no stranger to media events -- the company seems to hold one every two months or so -- and it doesn’t normally send out its invitations via old-fashioned mail.

Like others in the industry, Facebook typically uses email for its event invitations. Perhaps the use of snail mail is a clue to what the company has in store?

Inside, the invitation says: “A small team has been working on a big idea. Join us for coffee and learn about a new product,” according to ABC News.

It’s unclear what may be announced, but one rumor floating around the Web on Friday is that Facebook may be working on an RSS reader of its own.

The timing of the event would make sense, as the very popular Google Reader is set to shut down July 1.
