Facebook struck a chord with its users this week by launching "Look Back," a feature that instantly creates personalized video montages of users' top posts on the social network.
If you've logged into Facebook within the last day, you've likely seen more than a few posts from your friends saying "Here’s my Facebook movie. Find yours at https://facebook.com/lookback/ #FacebookIs10."
The Menlo Park, Calif., company has not said exactly how many users have created "Look Back" videos, but on Wednesday, Facebook said the product has "proven to be incredibly popular" and that "hundreds of millions of movies were rendered and have been rolling out since yesterday."
The videos are each a minute long and they were created by Facebook as a way to let users in on the company's 10th birthday celebration. Each video shows users' top photos, top status updates and some of their memorable moments, based on content they've shared.
"This is a small gesture to thank the over one billion people who are on Facebook by providing a unique way to look back at some of their biggest moments," Facebook said in a statement.
To access your own Look Back video, simply head to Facebook.com/lookback.
However, not every one of Facebook's 1.23 billion users will have access to a Look Back video. The company said the feature is only available to users who have set their account to English, Spanish, Italian, German, Frech, Turkish, Indonesian and Brazilian Portuguese.
Additionally, users who have not been on the social network for a long enough time as well as those who rarely post content will not be able to see a personalized movie. My editor, who never posts photos or rarely posts status updates, for example, said he does not see a video when he visits the Look Back Web page.
Facebook said Look Back videos will be available online for about one month. Users who wish to keep their videos permanently must share them on their Facebook Timeline.
