Google employees keep benefiting, even in death

Share

Google has long been known for taking care of its workforce and a new report shows that care continues after an employee’s death.

The Mountain View, Calif., company reportedly takes care of its employees’ families by giving them half of their salary for 10 years after the death of a worker.

As if that wasn’t nice enough, the benefit also extends beyond salary. Google also gives their employees’ spouses stock benefits.

Beyond that, Google makes sure employees’ children receive checks for $1,000 a month until they turn 19, or 23 if they are full-time students.

And the benefits aren’t just for tenured employees. Google confirmed to Forbes, which wrote the report, that most of its 34,000 employees are covered by the benefit.

“Obviously there’s no benefit to Google,” Laszlo Bock, Google’s chief people officer, told Forbes. “But it’s important to the company to help our families through this horrific if inevitable life event.”

Business Insider also asked Google if the benefit extended to same-sex spouses and, unsurprisingly, the company, which is known for being gay-friendly, answered yes.
