U.S. Cellular among last carriers to offer iPhone

Add U.S. Cellular to the long list of mobile networks that offer the iPhone.

After being exclusive to AT&T for nearly four years, the iPhone is now available from nearly every phone carrier in the country, with U.S. Cellular being the latest to join the list.

In the last year alone, Apple has added Virgin Mobile, Cricket Wireless, Wal-Mart’s Straight Talk and, most importantly, T-Mobile to the list of companies that now carry its smartphone.

U.S. Cellular Chief Executive Mary Dillon told investors and analysts on Friday that her company will be adding the popular device later this year because it’s losing customers without it. U.S. Cellular has not specified which iPhone models it will sell, for how much or when.

About the only major brands left without the iPhone are MetroPCS and Boost Mobile, both of which are prepaid brands.

T-Mobile completed its acquisition of MetroPCS this week, but MetroPCS CEO John Legere said that does not mean the pre-paid brand will soon get the iPhone. Legere recently said it’s possible MetroPCS will get the iPhone but “it’s not imminent.”

Meanwhile, Boost Mobile is rumored to be getting the device later this year. Reports in late April said the Sprint-owned brand could become the fourth prepaid carrier to sell the iPhone, but Boost has not confirmed those reports.
