Samsung Galaxy S III phone coming to major U.S. carriers in June
Those awaiting the Samsung Galaxy S III’s arrival have finally received something to hold on to: The next big Android phone will launch on all major U.S. carriers this month.
Samsung announced that its flagship phone will be available on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon, along with U.S. Cellular, sometime in June.
The company did not reveal exact pricing or dates, saying that information will be announced in the next few weeks by each of the networks. But according to an Associated Press report, the phone will be available starting at $199.
The Samsung Galaxy S III boasts a huge 4.8-inch HD screen, shoots 1080p video and will run Google’s latest Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich.
The phone will also include two unique features. The Galaxy S III will run S Voice, a voice assistant resembling the iPhone’s Siri, as well as a feature called Smart Stay, which optimizes the phone’s settings by detecting whether a user is looking at it.
The Galaxy S III will be available in 16GB and 32GB versions and can be expanded further with additional memory cards. It will be available in marble white and pebble blue.
“The U.S. launch of the Galaxy S III is the most anticipated launch of the year,” said Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Telecommunications America. “As promised, we are delivering the ‘next big thing’ for U.S. customers and across all major carriers.”
News of the phone’s U.S. launch comes about a week after it made its overseas debut, launching in Europe and the Middle East.
An international version of the phone selling at almost $800 also became available to U.S. customers over Amazon for pre-order a few weeks ago, but that version essentially works only with AT&T’s network.
