Samsung, LG to showcase curved 105-inch Ultra HD TVs at CES

South Korea rivals Samsung and LG are squaring off again, this time when it comes to gigantic televisions with curved screens.

The two companies Thursday announced they will showcase 105-inch curved-screen Ultra HD TVs at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next month.

LG set off the fight by announcing its TV first, claiming the model is the largest curved-screen TV to ever be made. Not to be outdone, Samsung shot back later in the day with its own announcement, saying that its upcoming TV model is the “most curved” 105-inch Ultra HD TV ever, whatever that means.

For now, though, there don’t seem to be any differences between the two models. Both TVs feature screens with huge 5,120 by 2,160 pixel resolutions. Both also feature 21:9 ratios, meaning they have true widescreen displays.

LG and Samsung probably will announce pricing and release dates at CES in early January. But don’t expect these new models to be affordable.

For comparison, Samsung still charges nearly $40,000 for the 84-inch Ultra HD TV it unveiled at last year’s CES. It would be surprising whether these new TVs were cheaper than that.
