Star Wars posts first Instagram and it’s a Darth Vader selfie

Do not underestimate the power of the force ... or the front-facing camera, Darth Vader.

Star Wars landed on Instagram Monday afternoon with a picture of Darth Vader taking a selfie. The account, @starwars, describes itself as the “official home of Star Wars on Instagram.”

It already has more than 7,000 followers, and the first picture of Darth Vader has been liked more than 2,000 times.

The photo shows the evil Sith Lord pointing the rear camera of a smartphone to take a selfie, instead of just using the front-facing camera. It’s a rookie move, but you got to cut Vader some slack, it’s his first selfie.

If you aren’t sure what a “selfie” is, look it up in the dictionary. It’s Oxford Dictionaries’ 2013 word of the year.

The new Instagram account comes a few months after the announcement of new “Star Wars” sequels, so it was likely launched for the sake of marketing, even though the new movies are still years away.

For now, the Darth Vader selfie is the only picture that has been posted by the account.
