Twitter working on export tool for your personal tweets

Twitter chief executive Dick Costolo said the 140-character social media platform is working on a way to let you see all of your old tweets.

Currently, Twitter only lets you go back and see a certain number of your older tweets, but Costolo said that will change.

“We’re working on a tool to let users export all of their tweets,” Costolo told The New York Times. “You’ll be able to download a file of them.”

That’s good news for any users who want to go back to look at their old content, but of course, Twitter isn’t the first social network to let you do this. Facebook has allowed you to import your statuses and all sorts of other content for some time now too.

However, Costolo did not give the New York Times a launch date for the new feature, but he did say he was confident the tools would reach users at some point.

Costolo also said the export tool will only let users grab their own tweets, not tweets from the general masses.

“It’s two different search problems,” he said. “It’s a different way of architecting search, going through all tweets of all time. You can’t just put three engineers on it.”
