Pasadena: Council honors three as Officers of the Year

Three individuals were honored with Officer of the Year awards at last month's meeting of the

. The council awards outstanding police officers serving the district in the spring of each year, usually during its monthly meeting.

This year's Sergeant of the Year is Sgt.

, who has served the department for 19 years.

is the council's 2013 Booking Officer of the Year.

, who has served for three years, was selected as the Reserve Officer of the Year.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Eastern District headquarters, 3700 Mountain Road. The highlight of the evening will include someone from the county's Special Operations Division who will discuss the department's Aviation Unit. The community is always welcome to attend to address the council about crime and safety issues.

Anime, manga club

, 1130 Duvall Highway, will hold its Anime and Manga Club meeting from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Family day at park

There will be activities for everyone to enjoy including musical performances by local schools, children's crafts and games, moon bounces and face painting.

Organizations on hand during the event will include Pasadena Sportfishing Group, the county Fire Department, the shock trauma helicopter, representatives from the county Public Library, 4H Club members and the American Red Cross bloodmobile.

There also will be a Shop Local walk and craft vendors, and food will be sold.

Admission to the park and most events will be free on that date.

Safe boating

will hold safe boating classes at the Bass Pro Outdoor Store at Arundel Mills in Hanover.

Each class runs from 7 to 9 p.m. for four consecutive Mondays. Sessions will begin June 10, July 29 and Sept. 16.

The class meets the Maryland Education Requirement and includes the Maryland Boating Certificate upon the successful completion of the multiple choice question exam given the last night of the session

Church's VBS

, 8680 Fort Smallwood Road, will offer vacation Bible school from 5:30 to 8 p.m. June 24 to 28 for children ages 4 through fifth grade.
