The new Fortaleza Hall at the S.C. Johnson & Son campus in Racine, Wisc. was designed by London-based architect Norman Foster and his firm, Foster + Partners. The building's skylit atrium houses a replica of an amphibious plane that the company's late chief executive officer, flew to Brazil in 1998. His flight retraced the route that his father, Herbert F. Johnson, flew in 1935 in search of lasting source of wax for floor-cleaning products. The building was constructed as a tribute to Sam Johnson, who died in 2004 and who is recalled in the sign for "Sam's Walk."
