The fire was reported at 1:20 a.m. at a single-family home on the 4500 block of West Parkway Avenue in McHenry Township. After McHenry police and McHenry Township Fire protection firefighters responded they found the home fully engulfed, officials said.
At the scene, police and fire officers were told that a resident of the home was still inside at the time of the fire, officials said. After putting out the blaze, investigators from the McHenry police, McHenry fire district and the state fire marshall's office processed the scene.
The girl was found inside the home and pronounced dead at 5:45 a.m. She died from smoke inhalation, according to the McHenry County Coroner's office. Her mother, father and brothers were able to escape.
After emergency crews responded residents and neighbors were evacuated from their homes, officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
In a separate overnight incident, two men were found unconscious in a basement of a home on the 1700 block of North Avenue, according to McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski.
A 20-year-old man died from carbon monoxide poisoning, while the other was revived, she said. The poisoning was the result of a running gas-powered generator that was being used to heat the basement, Majewski said.
