Shootings on the West and South sides left a 17-year-old boy dead and two other teenagers wounded Saturday evening, authorities said.
The fatal shooting happened about 6 p.m., as the 17-year-old and an 18-year-old were sitting in a car in the 2400 block of West Cermak Road,
Another vehicle pulled up alongside the car and someone inside fired shots, striking both teenagers, Zala said.
The 17-year-old, who was struck in the head, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Rush University Medical Center.
The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as Oscar Marquez, of the 700 block of South Oakley Boulevard.
He was a student at at the Marine Math and Science Academy on the Near West Side, according to family. The school and Chicago Public school officials refused to comment on the boy's slaying.
His companion sustained a gunshot wound to the arm, and his condition was stabilized at Rush.

About 9 p.m., a 16-year-old was shot as he stood on the corner of East 39th Street and South Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in the Bronzeville neighborhood, police said.

Police had no suspects in custody in either shooting as of early Sunday. Area detectives are investigating.
