A Rockford man was ticketed after the car he was driving was involved in a two-car crash in unincorporated
The crash occurred at 9:10 p.m. on Route 72 a half-mile west of Walker Road, according to Kane County sheriff's officials.
Killed in the crash was Jerry Crosby, 20, of the 5800 block of Lacresta Drive in Rockford, officials said in a press release.
Officials said that the crash involved a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Lawan Allen, 20, of Overdene Lane in Rockford, police said. Allen was ticketed for improper passing, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage.
Police said Allen was driving east on Route 72 when he began to pass a semi-truck that was also traveling east on Route 72. When he tried to pass the truck, Allen's car struck a 2010 Ford Edge that was traveling west on Route 72, police said.
Crosby was sitting in the back seat behind the driver, police said. Crosby was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured, police said.
It does not appear that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, police said. Route 72 between Walker Road and Engel Road was closed for about 50 minutes, police said.
