Murder and armed robbery charges have been filed against two men accused of gunning down and robbing a man sitting in a car with his girlfriend in the Bronzeville neighborhood early Saturday, police said.
, 20, of the 3800 block of Rita Drive in Richton Park, and Kiontae A. Mack, 17, of the 13100 block of South Corliss Avenue, were both charged with murder and armed robbery in the death of 23-year-old Stephin L. Williams, police said.
The teen’s name was not available immediately and police said Tucker had two other addresses listed as his home.
Williams was killed about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 4900 block of South Drexel Boulevard, near his home on the border between Bronzeville and Kenwood, about two blocks west of President
’s Kenwood home.
Williams, of the 4000 block of South Lake Park Avenue, was sitting in a car eating with his girlfriend when the two men, one of whom was armed, walked up and announced a robbery, police and his family said.
He tried to fight back but was not successful. He was pronounced dead at
at 3:10 a.m., a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said.
Results of an autopsy that was scheduled to be performed Sunday were not available immediately.
His mother, Tanya Williams, said Saturday her son worked at a local Walgreens and
and was attending school to be a registered nurse in Rantoul before transferring back to Chicago. He also served as the main caregiver for his 95-year-old grandfather, said his mother.
"He was a good man," said Tanya Williams, sobbing on the telephone. "My baby didn't know them, my baby didn't live by the gun he don't live by the sword. My baby was a good baby.’’
Police booking photos were not immediately available for the two charged.
