Two people were seriously injured when the pickup truck they were in collided with a freight train locomotive in Itasca early this morning, officials said.

The truck collided with a Canadian Pacific Railroad locomotive on its way east to the railroad's Bensenville yards, said Mike LoVecchio, a spokesman for Canadian Pacific. The locomotives were not pulling a train, LoVecchio said.
The male driver and a female passenger were trapped in the pickup following the crash, Radzinski said. Extrication of the female passenger took longer and she was taken by helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital for treatment, and the male driver was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.
