Two teenagers were shot, with a 17-year-old later dying of his injuries, in Albany Park this evening, authorities said.
Both victims were taken via ambulance to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center from the shooting in the 3100 block of West Montrose Avenue, with a 17-year-old boy in critical condition and a 16-year-old girl in serious condition, said Fire Department spokesman Sean Flynn.
The boy later died, Flynn said, although police and the Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm that information.
The male victim was shot in the back and the female shot in the buttocks in the attack, which took place about 7:45 p.m., according to Police News Affairs.
About 10 patrons and employees who were inside a nearby restaurant dove to the floor for protection when a bullet from the shooting flew through one of the restaurant's windows, an employee said in a telephone interview. No one inside the restaurant was injured, the employee said.
The employee, who declined to give his name, said a customer went outside after the shooting and saw a wounded person lying on the ground.
Police later interviewed customers and employees about what they saw and heard, the employee said.
