10. Kids These Days, 'Hard Times' (Save Money LLC, kidsthesedaysband.com)

A five-song EP marks the debut of this precocious, teenage septet. The songs sometimes verge on unwieldiness, cramming together everything from blues and soul to hip-hop and jazz, but the distinctive vocalists, strutting horns and swinging rhythms keep things on course. A highly promising first step for a band that gets better by the month.
