No production of "The Sound of Music" can thrive without Maria -- just look what the role did for Julie Andrews. But the New York-based newcomer Jennifer Blood was the pulsing heart of a stellar Oakbrook Terrace production that had producers flying into town to see her. At once adorable and insouciant, loving and feisty, romantic and determinedly unsentimental, Blood strummed that oh-so-delicate line between delivering a character that audiences think they already know and making Maria feel like a girl whom none of us had ever met before. Currently: Continuing as Maria through Jan. 8.
