You would not have expected a country-music spoof in a cabaret venue to host one of the best performances of the year. But there was no better all-around piece of comic acting in Chicago than the one hilarious turn forged by Jenny Littleton. With a voice like a young Dolly Parton, a bone-dry comic sensibility and a level of observational detail that is positively creepy in its intensity and accuracy, Littleton poked withering fun at Nashville culture, even while signaling her own affection for its excesses and its vulnerable wannabe stars. When Littleton sings "(Just Keep Me) Barefoot and Pregnant," the entire place doubles up in laughter. Upcoming: Currently appearing in "Doyle & Debbie" at the Royal George Theatre Cabaret.
