Navy Pier is Chicago's top tourist attraction. Do you know why? Go find out. In season, you will need to either walk or take a shuttle bus, because the parking lots are always full. But you scoff, thinking it's just soft pretzels, screaming kids and suburbanites, right? Tell the folks at Chicago Shakespeare, a dazzling theater outlet, that there's nothing for grown-ups to do at the pier. You also should resolve to visit the Observatory in the John Hancock Center. Is it overpriced? It depends on what value you place on a view like no other. Another option to consider is a resolution to discover (or rediscover) the Art Institute of Chicago. The Modern Wing has rounded out the profile of that institution, which no longer is a place you go to so you can check a box. Or ride one of those double-decker tourist buses to see the city from a different perspective -- that of someone making it sound really cool.
