Bargain hunt

Who isn't a cheapskate? What's really cool is that venues now make it easier than ever to penny-pinch, even if you're rolling in the dough. There is, of course, Groupon, the service that has its daily bargain. But that can be kind of random, and really hot shows can sell out. What you might not know, however, is that many venues have their own email lists that offer bargain seekers a great opportunity. The Auditorium Theatre has its own special offers, as does the Congress Theater, which hosts tons of rock, comedy and rap shows. The Empty Bottle has a program where you become a fan on Facebook, register and then gain access to special offers, including free admission to some shows. Other shows on the venue's website offer free admission when you RSVP to the event. So pick a venue, any venue, and see what they have. Odds are that there will be something that will grab you. Secret Colours, Apteka, E+, 10 p.m. Saturday, Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western Ave. Free with RSVP at
