4544 N. Lincoln Ave., 773-728-6000 or oldtownschool.org Type of music: Folk, blues, soul, pop, world, country, roots History: One of the country's longest-running folk organizations, Old Town moved into its current digs in 1998, and boasts one of the most intimate, acoustically reverberant spaces in the city. A beehive of classrooms surrounds the performance hall, which feels like a large living room. Crowd: Reserved, respectful and erudite, with patrons who appreciate the fact that every show here is seated. Behavior: Grade-school teachers that encouraged proper manners would be delighted to see their lessons practiced here. Anyone out of line is quickly "shhhed."
