George Lopez

"I don't live in the future; I'm stuck in the past." When George Lopez said this during a Showtime stand-up special, truer words had never been spoken. The comedian mines his youth and his years of coming up in a struggling family, for hilarity. He's Latino, but his comedy isn't, even as it relies upon his life as a person growing up in the Latino community. Taking that life and mining it for universal laughs is Lopez's true art. Why go: Stand-up comedy is hard, but Lopez makes it look easy. Reconsider: If shtick sometimes verging on stereotype bothers you ... 7 p.m. Saturday at The Chicago Theatre, 175 N.
