Mariann Mayberry, 'Good People,' at Steppenwolf Theatre Company
Some actors can work for years in Chicago without ever quite getting the role that really shows what they can do. Mayberry, one such actress, finally grabbed her chance with the central role in the David Lindsay-Abaire drama about class envy in South Boston. Her work as scrappy Margie Walsh, stuck in a minimum-wage world after a slew of bad personal choices, was a performance of raging intensity and profoundly humanistic compassion.
