Five people were injured, four of them seriously, in a five-vehicle crash in the Austin neighborhood this afternoon, authorities said.
An Emergency Medical Services Plan 1, sending six ambulances to the scene, was called for the crash at Washington Boulevard and Cicero Avenue just after 1:30 p.m., according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Will Knight.
Two victims were taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious-to-critical condition and two were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, Knight said. A fifth person was taken to Loretto Hospital in good-to-fair condition, he said.
The crash involved five vehicles, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada. None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, he said.
