Nine people were injured after a Pace van leased to a south suburban center for people with disabilities crashed into a tree in the Morgan Park neighborhood, authorities said.
None of the injuries in the crash in the 11400 block of South May Street a little before 8:45 a.m. were believed to be life-threatening, according to the
The van is part of Pace's van pool program and is leased to the Sertoma Centre in Alsip, which provides a wide range of services to people with disabilities, said Patrick Wilmot, a spokesman for Pace. The driver is believed to be employed by the center, Wilmot said.
The crash was one of numerous accidents throughout the Chicago area this morning, most of them caused at least in part by slick conditions from morning snow and ice. The Bishop Ford Freeway, Dan Ryan Expressway and Interstate 57 suffered icy conditions, leading State Police to have drivers in crashes involving only property damage exchange information and report to poice via phone, rather than call police.
