An Aurora man was killed walking on a dark, country road after a previous car crash force him to have his vehicle towed, police said.
Dean Craig, 54, was killed about 7:40 p.m. Monday while walking on Jericho Road between Dugan and Ashe roads, outside Sugar Grove, Kane County Sheriff’s police said in a news release. Craig was walking east when he was hit by a Toyota Tundra pickup that also was headed east on Jericho Road.
Craig was walking along the road after police finished investigating a car crash he was in around 6 p.m. about two miles away.
Craig was pronounced dead at the scene. The speed limit on that stretch of road is 55 mph, and there are no street lights.
Police said earlier that evening, Craig was driving north on Dugan Road, just south of Granart Road, and attempted to make a left turn into a driveway in order to turn around. Craig’s car turned in front of another, southbound vehicle, police said.
Both vehicles had to be towed, but no one was injured in that crash. Police said a deputy offered Craig a ride, but he told police he had called a friend who would pick him up.
No citations have been issued in the truck versus pedestrian crash, and police continue to investigate.
