One of three workers burned in a chemical flash fire earlier this month in unincorporated Willowbrook died Sunday, authorities said.

Luis Macias, 29, of the 1400 block of Busse Road in Mount Prospect, was pronounced dead at 1:55 p.m. Sunday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood's burn unit, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Macias was one of three men burned about 3 p.m. Aug. 9 while working in the basement of a large apartment complex named Hinsdale Lake Terrace on Hyacinth Drive in unincorporated Willowbrook, DuPage County sheriff's spokeswoman Dawn Domrose said.

"They were working with some chemicals and there was a flash," Domrose said. "The chemicals caught on fire and they were burned."

Domrose did not know the conditions of the other two victims and said the incident was being investigated by a fire department task force.

Results from an autopsy scheduled for Monday to determine the cause and manner of Macias' death were not available immediately.
