SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Chicago Blackhawks placed veteran defenseman Steve Montador on the injured list and recalled Dylan Olsen from Rockford of the American Hockey League on Friday.

Montador suffered an upper-body injury during the second period of the Hawks' 5-2 loss to the Avalanche in Denver on Tuesday night and has not practiced since. On Thursday, coach Joel Quenneville said of the 32-year-old's condition: "Nothing's changed as far as (Montador's) progress."

Olsen, 21, made his NHL debut Jan. 5 and had four shots on goal, five hits and one blocked shot in two games with the Hawks before being reassigned. The Hawks' first selection (28th overall) in the 2009 entry draft has four goals, three assists and 44 penalty minutes in 44 regular-season tilts games this season with the IceHogs.

Montador has five goals, nine assists, 45 penalty minutes and a plus-4 plus/minus rating in 51 regular-season games with the Hawks. He will miss at least two games, including Friday night's Western Conference showdown against the Sharks at HP Pavilion and Saturday's game vs. the Phoenix Coyotes in Glendale, Ariz.

Olsen will be in the Hawks' lineup when they face the Sharks as the team attempts to snap a six-game losing skid.

"The two games he played (prior) I thought he was real solid for us," Quenneville said. "He gave us some size, had some good presence, played the right side for us and did some good things."

To replace Olsen on the IceHogs' roster, the organization reassigned defenseman Simon Danis-Pepin from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye to Rockford.
