One thing to know about your book club: We began our first meetings at the historic Dole Mansion in Crystal Lake; we later moved on to a couple of coffee houses. But for the past year we have been having breakfast meetings at Benedict's restaurant. Sometimes we are leaving as the lunch crowd is arriving!. Also, for the last two years we have been “visiting” many different countries in our books, from Chile to Japan to Germany to France to Greece...armchair travel is great!
Authors we’d most like to meet: Jeannette Walls, Pat Conroy, Wally Lamb, J.K. Rowling, Stephen King and Carl Hiassen.
Worst excuse anyone’s given for not reading an assigned book: While on a cruise, she dropped the book in a hot tub. She had to choose between the margarita or the book. Guess what won?
Average time we actually spend talking about a book before conversation swerves off into politics and family issues: About 20 minutes ... but our conversation is like a roller coaster, often coming back to the book, then veering off again.
What books are next: "Half Broke Horses" and "Her Fearful Symmetry." We try to plan at least 2 months ahead.
Five books we loved: This was tough! We loved "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls, "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" by Lisa See, "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak, "The Blood of Flowers" by Anita Amirrezvani and "Loving Frank" by Nancy Horan.
