A man was shot and fatally wounded in the Grand Crossing neighborhood this morning, police said.
The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition following the shooting about 8:30 a.m. in the 7400 block of South Dorchester Avenue, said Chicago Fire Department spokeswoman Meg Ahlheim. The victim was believed to have suffered at least two gunshot wounds.
The man was identified as Robert Gholson, 28, of the 1300 block of East 74th Street, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.
He was pronounced dead at 9:29 a.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, he said.
Several men or boys walked up to Gholson on the street and at least one of them started shooting, striking him several times, including in the chest and arm, police said.
