Def Squad

The hip-hop supergroup Def Squad is made up of rappers Redman, Erick Sermon and Keith Murray, all possessing a reputation for going hard, whether it be lyrically, rocking a crowd or battling other MCs. The trio's 1998 "El Nino" is the best of three worlds, with the emcees' individual styles and skills coming together for an album full of good beats and rhymes, including "Def Squad Delite," a remake of the Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight." Why go: Although the solo work of the members is more familiar than Def Squad albums, you can be guaranteed a good time when the Squad performs live, whether you know the songs or not. Reconsider: What is this Def Squad you speak of? 9 p.m. Friday at The Shrine, 2109 S. Wabash Ave.; $20; theshrinechicago.com
