Broadway casting set for 'Chinglish'

. The replacement of Waterston was expected. More surprising is the decision to go with a well-respected actor (who appeared in the Elevator Repair Service production of “Gatz” and has several Chicago credits) rather than a ticket-selling star.

Lead producer Jeffrey Richards has apparently decided that this production of Hwang's new play, a big hit in Chicago, can thrive on its own. “Chinglish” will open at the Longacre Theatre on Broadway on Oct. 27.
