A 27-year-old Chicago woman hired to clean a South Barrington home was arrested after she took a credit card, a laptop and an iPad from the residence and went on a shopping spree with her live-in boyfriend, authorities said today.
Anita Adwent and Rafael Mielczarek, 30, both of the 2700 block of North Sayre Avenue, were charged in Cook County Circuit Court Wednesday with felony theft. The two also were charged with unlawful acquisition of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a prescription pad.
Bail for Mielczarek was set at $50,000 in Rolling Meadows branch court. Bail for Adwent was set at $30,000.
Adwent also was wanted on a warrant for violating the probation sentence she received after pleading guilty to retail theft in July, said Assistant State’s Atty. Leslie Gool. Mielczarek was on probation for a conviction for obtaining a controlled substance by fraud, Gool said.
The South Barrington theft occurred in September after Adwent was driven to the home on Willow Bay Drive by Mielczarek, Gool said. The two then used the credit card at several stores, charging $3,100 worth of goods, Gool said.
The two were arrested on warrants Oct. 29 by police, who allegedly found a bottle of prescription pills and a prescription pad at their residence, Gool said.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
