A 34-year-old man was charged this morning in connection with the fatal shooting of a Hammond teen in August, officials said.
Lewis Cunningham, of the 100 block of West 109th Place, was charged with first degree murder and possession of cannabis, police said.
Police said Cunningham arranged to meet with the teen, later identified as
Cunningham and a second robber pulled out weapons and demanded money, police said. A struggle began and Serrano was shot.
Serrano was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in
Narcotics and Gangs Investigations officers arrested Cunningham shortly before 11 p.m. Friday on the 7800 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, police said.
Cunningham, who has a prior felony drug conviction in 2004, was wanted on an arrest warrant for bond forfeiture, police said. He also was convited of aggravated assault in 2006, according to court records.
He was scheduled to appear in bond court this afternoon.
