One man was killed and a man and woman were injured in a shooting that occurred early Sunday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, police said.
The shooting happened at 12:55 a.m. on the 3100 block of West Van Buren Street, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.
Several people were in a park when someone fired shots and struck the three people, Alfaro said.
A 22-year-old man was shot in the head and pronounced dead on the scene.
The man was identified as Demarcus Ervin of the 200 North Lockwood Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
A 27-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to a leg in the same incident and was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, said Alfaro.
The third victim of the shooting, a 21-year-old woman, was shot in the hand and took herself to Norwegian-American Hospital where her condition had stabilized, police said.
Combined with the shooting of a 3-year-old boy Saturday night on the Far South Side and the wounding of six others in early Sunday incidents across the city, the overnight gun violence totals included at least one dead and 9 wounded.
