Tommie Williams, a Chicago Vocational Career Academy High School student was killed April 2 on the South Side in what police said may have been a gang-related shooting. Williams was walking down the street with several people when shots rang out, police said. He tried running, but was shot in the upper back before collapsing. "It happened not far from here (the family's apartment)," said Williams' grandmother, Lois Davis, who has been his guardian since he was 3. "Neighbors came by, banging on the door, telling me there was a shooting. They tore him up. There wasn't anything I could do for him." Williams was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later at Stroger Hospital, said a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was the 31st Chicago Public Schools student slain this school year.
