PEORIA, Ariz. -- The Cubs’ Randy Wells allowed three hits and two runs Monday in a morning B game against the Cleveland Indians on a cold and windy back field in Goodyear, and received mixed reviews from manager Dale Sveum.
“He wasn’t real sharp but he wasn’t way off, either,” Sveum said. “He wasn’t bad by any means.
“I try not to put too much on it because conditions weren’t that good, but we’ll have to pitch in those same conditions, or worse, in Chicago.”
Wells and Rodrigo Lopez are not locks for the starting rotation, with Sveum saying, “We’re going to have to have a long man, so there’s going to be a decision there, too.”
In the game, which the Cubs lost 6-5, first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run triple.
