DuPage County has charged a Texas man with having sexually explicit conversations over the Internet with a 13-year-old girl from Downers Grove, authorities said today.
Rudolph Figueroa, 45, of Corpus Christi, Texas, has been extradited to Illinois and is scheduled to appear Sunday in bond court, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's office.
Figueroa has been charged with one count of Grooming, a Class 4 Felony, and additional charges may be forthcoming, the office said.
The state's attorney's office alleges that since at least March 31, 2012, through June 2, 2012, Figueroa had been in contact with the 13-year-old girl, who he had met on the Internet after responding to YouTube videos she had posted.
Authorities said that on several occasions Figueroa had sexually explicit conversations with the girl, knowing she was 13 years old.
“The Internet can be a great educational and recreational instrument,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin said in a release. “But it also allows for anonymity that child sexual predators can use to their advantage."
Berlin said the investigation was a cooperation between his office, the Downers Grove Police Department, the Corpus Christi Police Department and the Greater Houston Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
