Bond was set at $500,000 today for a Carol Stream man accused of driving drunk when he drove his pickup truck into a freight train locomotive a week ago in Itasca, causing the death of a passenger in his car.
Jeffrey S. Fisher, 39, of the 700 block of Bluff Street, was released Sunday from Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and was taken to the DuPage County Jail, where he was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, which used to be called reckless homicide.
Assistant State's Attorney Thomas Vega told Judge Michael Wolfe that the defendant's blood alcohol level was .18 shortly after the crash.
The accident occurred at 2:53 a.m. on July 3 on a Canadian Pacific line north of Irving Park Road at Rohlwing Road.
Vega said the defendant was driving on a drivers license that had been suspended for not having insurance.
Eva Meyers, who lived at the same address as Fisher, died around noon July 4 from injuries sustained in the accident.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
