A fourth death attributed to the West Nile virus has been confirmed in DuPage County, state and local officials said Thursday.
Citing privacy laws, the DuPage County Health department refused to release any details on the latest death, which happened several weeks ago, public information officer Mike Hass said.
Hass said the Illinois Department of Public Health had performed tests to confirm the virus in the latest fatality and had alerted local officials of the positive finding Wednesday. The state also declined to release further information, IDPH spokesperson Melanie Arnold said.
So far this year, there have been 26 confirmed cases of the virus in DuPage among residents of a dozen different municipalities, according to the local health department.
