A dynamite bomb went off on August 14, 1934 in the doorway of a small print shop at the hotel and injured three people, two of which were union picketers who were questioned in the bombing. At the time of the blast, union electrical workers had been striking for months against the hotel. Also brought in for questioning was Danny Stanton, a former Al Capone gangster.
