I have always enjoyed Everyday Food, the mini mag with quick and delicious recipes from
's team. So when a special summer issue (its first full-sized version) arrived, we made a quick skim through, folding down the corners on pages with a few alluring simple recipes (the 8-ingredient cheddar-corn spoonbread, the 3-ingredient pesto-yogurt potato salad, among them), eyeballing the summer food festivals, celeb chef recipes (Tom Colicchio,
, John Besh, etc.)
The page that stopped us? "Kitchen Tips and Tricks" with its high-styled arrangement of crumpled aluminum foil, paper towels, paper towel tubes. You get the idea. Anyway, the gist is this: You can solve a lot of kitchen conundrums with things already at hand.
Paper towels? Dampen them with water then use to wipe shucked ears of corn of their final bits of silk. The towel tube? It can solve the problem of wandering plastic bags. Check out the issue on newsstands now, via Barnes & Noble's NOOK, or at
