Nobody was injured in an extra-alarm fire that spread to two buildings on the North Side Friday night.
The back porches of a 2½-story brick apartment building in the 2100 block of West Ainslie Street in the Ravenswood neighborhood caught fire and spread to an adjacent single-family frame house, according to Cmdr. Sean Flynn, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.
All the occupants of both buildings were outside when the fire department arrived and most of the fire was out by 8:30 p.m., Flynn said.
About the same time, investigators from department's Office of Fire Investigations were arriving. It's too early to say what caused the fire, Flynn said.
The initial call was for a still-and-box alarm but the fire department's response was upgraded a short time later.
