The list of reality shows Aylin Bayramoglu has auditioned for unsuccessfully is a long one: “
“I had nothing to lose,” said Bayramoglu, 20, over the phone Thursday. Bayramoglu was majoring in vocal jazz performance at
Bayramoglu's persistence paid off when she was named one of the 14 "Glee Project" cast members competing for a seven-episode arc on the upcoming season of Fox's "Glee." Though she didn't win (that honor went to 19-year-old Miami native Blake Jenner), she did advance all the way to last Tuesday's season finale.
Bayramoglu stood out in the diverse cast not only because she grew up in a traditional Turkish household, but also because of her Muslim faith. She said she prepared her mother for the more risqué storylines on "The Glee Project" so that they wouldn't come as a surprise.
"I tried to warn my mom beforehand," Bayramoglu said. "I prepared her. 'Mom, this week I may or may not be a lesbian. I might be pregnant.' Just stuff like that, which helped. They're all pretty proud of me and how far I got."
Like many aspiring entertainers, Bayramoglu has now moved to Los Angeles. She lives with "Glee Project" competitor Lily Mae Harrington and plans on taking acting lessons. Asked if she will appear on "Glee" just like other "Glee Project" runners-up did last season, Bayramoglu said she has yet to be approached about a role but, not surprisingly, would be open to it.
